APPRENTICESHIPS are a popular choice amongst people who want to begin or perhaps change their career, gaining valuable skills that employers need alongside gaining an accredited qualification.
The Welsh Government pays for the apprentice’s training costs, meaning employers only need pay the wage, and more businesses are being encouraged to come on board to help build tomorrow’s highly skilled workforce.

Apprenticeships in Wales are open to everyone and are available at various qualification levels.
A former Coleg Ceredigion apprentice started his own business, Dylan Tandy Sectional & Seamless Aluminum Guttering, following his apprenticeship.

“I enrolled on Coleg Ceredigion’s pre-apprenticeship programme, the level one diploma in carpentry and joinery, and continued to progress through level two and three on an apprenticeship scheme. The level one diploma gave me a strong foundation of skills, which I was able to put to use in the work environment during my apprenticeship. The level two and three day-release at college helped me develop my skills further in the purpose-built workshops. I was also fortunate enough to be chosen to represent the college at the regional, Welsh and UK Inspiring Skills competitions. Through the experience I gained during my apprenticeship and at Coleg Ceredigion, I have been able to set up my own successful carpentry business, including diversification into the installation of seamless aluminium guttering, and have not looked back since. I now employ two full-time members of staff, both of whom were also trained at the college. I would recommend the courses at Coleg Ceredigion to anyone.”

Coleg Ceredigion is part of the B-WBL Consortium of apprenticeship delivery and as a subsidiary of Coleg Sir Gâr is now able to offer a wider range of exciting opportunities to earn as you learn. The Welsh Government supports Apprenticeships in Wales as they fuel the future essential skills base of the nation and 81% of businesses say employing apprentices makes their workplace more productive.
The Apprenticeship Matching Service is a free online service which lists the apprenticeship opportunities being offered by employers around Wales enabling people to match their skills, talents and career aspirations with the right vacancies.
