Do you want to learn some new skills?

Do you want to learn some new skills, harness your digital creativity or increase your personal or team effectiveness at work? Then maybe Dysgu Bro Ceredigion can help you.

We have been providing leisure courses for adults across Ceredigion since 1996. Originally, these included basic IT skills such as word processing and spreadsheets but as digital technology has expanded exponentially, courses now include using digital cameras and editing digital photographs with Photoshop, Cloud computing and using iPads and tablet computers. Our oldest learner, Max Jenkins, who has successfully completed many IT courses already, is aged 94, proving that age really doesn’t matter. As he says, “I only started on a computer course to get a bit more information. I am now in my sixth year, and I hope to continue. I am more confident in the use of a computer from using MS Office to e-mailing, doing online crosswords and for looking up information. I am now getting into cloud computing. I am really enjoying it!”

To respond to local business needs, we have expanded to offer a range of business skills courses at very competitive rates. Popular courses include how to deliver effective presentations, write professional reports and take minutes of meetings. A new addition to our prospectus, ‘Using Google Apps for Business’, has helped Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) staff exploit the use of Google apps across their organisation. Mr Alan Davies, Managing Director of the Farmers’ Union of Wales said, “The Farmers’ Union of Wales was really pleased to use a local, bilingual, training provider. The training course was run efficiently and effectively and the facilities were excellent. The training course was of benefit to all staff who attended and the Farmers’ Union of Wales would happily recommend Dysgu Bro Ceredigion to other businesses

We also offer the very popular European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification which many employers recognise as demonstrating competency with using Microsoft Office software and the internet.
A number of our courses are available bilingually or through the medium of Welsh and we pride ourselves on being able to react quickly to local business or organisational needs to produce bespoke courses at times convenient to you. A group of local managers received personalised coaching to polish their presentation skills and one person said “Very good, I strangely enjoyed it. I particularly liked the way it was organised in small chunks and therefore I could easily fit it in. The sessions were always engaging with regard to duration, content and presenter.”

We have a range of IT equipment which means we can deliver training in the workplace or at community venues. Another of our exciting projects, delivered in association with Digiskills Cymru, has seen our tutors working with staff at care home venues to develop their confidence with digital skills so that they can support their residents with using Smartphones and tablet computers, and use IT confidently themselves in their workplace.

Are you anxious about your maths or literacy skills, or find it increasingly difficult to help your children with their homework? Our courses have given confidence to those who dreaded these subjects at school. All these courses are accredited, meaning learners have achieved qualifications enabling them to progress onto further study, such as Access to Nursing or university degrees. For others, this has been the first qualification they have ever achieved.
Creative courses such as flower arranging and designing T-shirts have enabled our learners to tap into their creativity and some of our learners on our flower arranging course have gone on to win competitions at the Royal Welsh Show and other shows. If a healthy lifestyle is more your thing, maybe one of our keep fit classes would interest you?

Our learners have experienced the “classroom outside” with educational and photographic trips to Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse, Portmeirion and the Vale of Rheidol railway.
We work in conjunction with other agencies and organisations to access funding for learners to join courses. This is dependent on eligibility but we encourage anyone to contact us to discuss and we can direct you to the relevant parties.
With learning centres conveniently located in Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Llandysul and Aberaeron, let 2017 be the year where you try something different.
