An Interview with: Glan y Mor Leisure Park

Just over 12 months ago, Huw went to see Modlen Osborne Jones, the manager of Glan Y Mor, to find out about what they had to offer to both holidaymakers and locals alike. A few weeks’ ago, with the stunning Clarach sunset as a backdrop, Huw visited Modlen once again to see how things have changed in one of the jewels in the Cardigan Bay crown.

So Modlen, last time we featured you was in April 2016. A lot seems to have changed round here since then?! Yes, yes there has!! I feel if the park never changed, then we wouldn’t move with the times! The main visible changes we have had is….black and gold bilingual park signage as we did say in our last interview that the next step was to promote welsh awareness. There has also been an extension on the soft play area (which has been very popular), a new steam room and whirlpool fitted inside the main indoor pool.

And for those people who can’t remember, tell me a bit about you and how you came to be manager of Glanymor. I was born and bred in Aberystwyth and was educated at Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron. I previously worked for Glan Y Mor for 4 years as an accounts assistant and Payroll Clerk, I then left for 2 years and moved to Spain. Things didn’t particularly work out there for me and I decided it was time to come home to sunny Wales. I was offered the position of club manager for the first season back at Glan Y Mor and I’ve now been the complex manager here for nearly 2 years!

And how has the park changed and developed over the years? The park itself has changed a lot over the years. I believe that it’s very important to keep up to date with current trends!

And do you think it will continue to expand and improve in the future? I think it will definitely keep expanding and improving… after all there’s always room to improve anything and everything!

You obviously have a lot of holiday makers stay with you but are all of your services available to locals as well? Yes - we are definitely a lot busier than we were when I came back to work here which is good as it shows I must be doing something right! Our services are available and open to everyone… everyone meaning the locals, public and holiday makers. People are still under the assumption we are a strictly private park, which isn’t the case! Our doors are open to all!

And for those who don’t know, what exactly do you have on site here? We offer holidays (Camping, static caravans and touring), holiday home ownership, indoor heated swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, indoor soft play area, hot/cold food, beverages, real ales, bowling lanes, children’s parties and we also cater for events. We have recently had a few local primary schools use us for their school trips, which has been fantastic!! Support the locals I say!! We also have regular live entertainment including some great tribute acts that we have lined up for this year and it’s free entry on the door! You can check our website for further acts on www.

Presumably a lot of your guests keep coming back year after year. What is it that keeps them coming back do you think? Guests come back to see the outstanding sunsets, views and countryside and of course for our beer and food prices!! Our draught pints start from £2.90 – BARGAIN!!

And to what extent is having fun at Glan Y Mor weather dependent? There’s lots to do at Glan Y Mor… there’s crab fishing, strolls along the beach, sunbathing, drinking, eating, swimming, bowling and soft play! So come rain or shine there’s always something to do for the adults and the little ones.

And finally, do you have a nice EGO Token for our readers this month? Yes we do!!! Free Glass of wine with every roast dinner purchased!! Roast dinners are every Sunday in the bowling alley from 12pm.
